Old saris are sold by households to pedlars, who sell the saris onto companies who usually recycle them. Instead we reuse the saris, weaving them together with sustainable seagrass to make a beautiful, one of a kind basket.
The sewing thread used is made of 70% poly and 30% cotton. It cannot be 100% cotton thread as this will not tolerate the sewing machine tension needed to be able to stitch the seagrass into place.
